The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the region through 10 a.m. January 3 with up to a foot of snow possible from the slow-moving system.

By 4 a.m. Thursday, there had been several reports of snow-covered and slippery roads and several accidents were reported, including one shortly before 6:30 that closed a lane of Interstate 81 South near exit 3 that resulted in what were believed to be minor injuries to the occupants of the vehicle.

Motorists are warned that travel could be complicated through the night-time hours and strong winds would result in blowing and drifting of the fallen snow.

Wind chills may reach as low as -25 and residents are urged to make sure they have heads, hands and noses covered when heading outside.
