New York State Electric and Gas was still reporting scattered power outages in its service area March 9. But at one time, over 36,000 residents lost power due to strong winds brought in by a cold front the previous afternoon.

In the Binghamton area, the utility had only listed on its website “assessing” as to when power would be restored to the remaining customers March 9.

NYSEG said Monroe and Erie Counties were hardest hit.

To the West, Rochester Gas and Electric had 91,000 customers without power during the wind storm.

Southern Tier Emergency Services officials reported several trees down, including in the Town of Binghamton, in Tioga and Chenango Counties.  A house in Chenango Forks also sustained substantial damage from a tree that came down in the afternoon.
