A State of Emergency remains in effect for the next few days unless Village of Johnson City and Broome County officials opt to lift it, in an area around Wilson Hospital where the parking garage across from the emergency room on Baldwin Street collapsed at around 3:20 p.m. July 16.

Authorities are still sifting through the rubble and removing over 20 cars that were crushed when the second floor of the structure came down, but there has been no word of any injuries.

Wilson Hospital is in full operation, including the emergency room. Traffic access to the emergency room is via Harrison Street, instead of the normal entrance on Baldwin.

The following streets remain closed until further notice: Baldwin between Main and Corliss Avenue, Corliss between Baldwin and Arch and Arch between Main and Corliss.

Investigators say they believe a structural flaw led to the collapse, not any sort of collision or criminal action.

Several portions of the hospital buildings were evacuated as a precaution immediately following the collapse, including some offices located under the parking garage.  Those facilities were apparently not significantly damaged.

A large crane has been brought in to lift vehicles out of the debris.
