Wildcats Down Bearcats in Close Battle
The Binghamton Bearcats dropped a 71-67 road game to the New Hampshire Wildcats at Lundholm Gymnasium in Durham last (Wednesday) night. Binghamton never led in the game. The score was tied for 43 seconds but aside from that the Wildcats held the lead.
New Hampshire was up by ten points at the half. Binghamton outscored New Hampshire 32-26 in the second 20 minutes but could never pull ahead. Two keys propelled the Wildcats to victory. They capitalized on their trips to the free throw line making 22 of 25 attempts. They also had a wide advantage in rebounding grabbing 46 boards compared to 26 for the Bearcats. On the offensive glass New Hampshire held a 13-3 edge.
Tanner Leissner, who is second in scoring in America East, paced the Wildcats with 20 points including going 13-14 at the free throw line. Top gun in the game was Bearcat senior Willie Rodriguez who notched 23 points making eight of his eleven shot attempts. Also hitting double figures for the Bearcats were Timmy Rose with 14 points and Jw2r.C.Show with 12.
The Bearcats fall to 0-2 in the conference and 9-8 overall. New Hampshire moves to 2-1 in America East and 6-11 overall. The Bearcats hit the road again to meet the Hartford Hawks on Saturday at 2 PM (air at 1:45 on News Radio 1290 WNBF).
