Over $245,000 was distributed today to area charities from this year's Wendy's Walk for Kids which was held during the final round of the Dick's Sporting Goods Open at En Joie Golf Course in Endicott.  Checks for $56,250 were given to The Broome County Urban League, Handicapped Children's Association and Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption.  Mom's House received a check for $1,000 more...$57,250 since they raised the most money of the four charities in events leading up to the Walk.

$225,000 was raised from the core fundraising events put on year-round.  An additional $19,130 was raised as a result of the "Play with a Pro" squeeze ball promotion held prior to the Tim McGraw concert on the Friday night of the Dick's Open. Proceeds from that event are being divided among this year's charities and additional organizations who will take part in 2014.  Next year's group includes: Achieve, the Jewish Community Center, the Food Bank of the Southern Tier and the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption.

The Wendy's Walk for Kids was started in 2009.  Since that time over $700,000 has been raised for local charities.  Planning and fund-raising for next year's Wendy's Walk for Kids has already begun.  The 2014 Walk will once again be held on the Sunday of the Dick's Sporting Goods Open which will be on August 17th.  Additional information is available at www.WendysWalk.com.
