Wegmans Pharmacy customers are receiving notification in the mail reminding them that they will no longer be able to get a generic statin, or cholesterol-lowering medication at no cost in a couple months.

The notice reminds participants in the free Atorvastatin program that the offer was only good through the end of December, 2013.

The mailer says the drug, after January 1, will be available at what was called, "a very competitive price." No price quote was mentioned in the statement.

Consumers are encouraged to check with their insurance provider concerning coverage for Atorvastatin.

There was no information about the upcoming end of the program on the company's website.
