Topping tonight will be difficult for any future Binghamton Mets team to do. The B-Mets  completed a three-game sweep of Richmond with a 2-1 win at NYSEG Stadium to capture their third Eastern League Championship   Pinch-hitter Jayce Boyd jacked a drive to deep centerfield for a game-winning RBI single to give closer Cody Satterwhite the win.

Not only was it in walk-off fashion but it came before 5,904 fans who jammed NYSEG Stadium to cheer on their hometown team.  It also came on the heels of a superb outing  by left-hander Steven Matz who held the Flying Squirrels hitless until one out in the eighth inning.  Matz and Richmond starter Ty Blach were locked in a classic pitching duel.  Binghamton led 1-0 until the Flying Squirrels tied it after breaking up Matz's no-hitter.

In the bottom of the ninth catcher Xorge Carillo got aboard with a one-out single.  He advanced to second on another single from Wilfredo Tovar.  Manager Pedro Lopez inserted Gavin Cecchini to pinch-run for Carillo.  That set the stage for Boyd's walk-off game-winning hit as Cecchini scored. Cody Satterwhite who worked the ninth inning for the B-Mets earned the win while Steve Okert took the loss for the Flying Squirrels.

The victory gives the Binghamton Mets their third Eastern League Championship.  They won the title in their first year of operation in 1992 and again in 1994.
