A mail carrier in Tioga County admits she didn’t want to work late on her route to make sure all the mail was delivered, so she stashed some at her house and threw some away.

39 year old Jennifer Belles pleaded guilty in Federal Court in Binghamton to obstruction of mail and is to be sentenced in June.

She faces up to six months in jail for the misdemeanor charge.

Belles told the court she knew it was wrong but she was “stupid.”

The investigation was launched by the U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector general after a complaint came from a postal service manager about several bags of undelivered First Class Mail that a family member found in Belle’s home.

Belles had been a postal carrier in Waverly for a little over two years.

The missing mail was reportedly side-tracked between October 2013 and May 2015.
