Endwell residents have been wondering why two watersheds off Taft Avenue now are empty.

A resident of North McKinley Avenue in the town of Union said there was a big rush of clear water in Brixius Creek last Saturday. That was followed by a sudden rush of muddy water in the creek.

One man who works near the site told WNBF News that over the past 35 years, he had never seen the water disappear. He wondered what had caused the water to vanish.

Broome County government officials late this morning said the watershed was drained so workers could make repairs.

A statement released by the county executive's office indicated the project likely would take between two and three weeks to complete.

After the work is done, the watersheds should refill themselves.

There was no word why the project was not announced in advance.
