Johnson City Police say they were tipped off about a break-in by an alert neighbor who quickly summoned the authorities.

A Yonkers man is facing numerous charges for the reported break-in at a Johnson City home.

Village police say 21 year old Timothy Bryant is charged with two felony counts of burglary and a misdemeanor count o possession of burglar's tools.

Bryant was apparently seen by a neighbor going into a house on Peterson Street. The neighbor knew the resident wasn't home and immediately called the police, who say they met Bryant coming out the back door with a jewelry box.  When he saw the police, he ran back inside and locked the door.  Bryant surrendered about an hour later, coming out the front door.

On further investigation, police accuse Bryant of stealing a bicycle from a garage on Burbank Avenue in the village the day before.

Bryant was sent to the Broome County Jail.

Witnesses say the police would not have been able to apprehend a suspect so quickly if it had not been for the observant neighbor who was willing to get involved and call authorities.
