A vote on the proposal will be held on Tuesday (April 5). Two propositions will be on the ballot.

The first measure would establish a School District Vestal Public Library with an annual tax levy of $700,000.

The second measure would create a five-member board of trustees to oversee the library. The candidates for the board are Margaret Hadsell, Sue Nunes, Dannielle Swart, Marianne Taylor and Peter Ziolkowski.

The proposed annual library tax would be between $33.13 and $33.51 for property with an assessed value of $100,000. The tax would vary slightly for properties in the towns of Vestal, Owego and Binghamton.

The Vestal library traditionally has relied on funding through town taxes and from Broome County government. Money provided by the town and county has decreased in recent years.

Voting on the proposal will take place on Tuesday from noon to 9 p.m. at the library on the Vestal Parkway East.
