Virgil Man Enters Plea in Crash that Killed His Daughter
A Cortland County man is still being held without bail after being arraigned in Cortland County Court on charges of aggravated vehicular homicide and murder in a drunk driving crash that killed his 6 year old daughter.
30 year old Daniel Haynes III pleaded not guilty to 31 one counts in the April 24th high-speed crash on West State Road in Virgil.
The Cortland County Sheriff’s Office said Haynes was doing at least 100 miles an hour when his car crashed into a utility pole.
The Virgil man is accused of driving while intoxicated by alcohol and drugs.
Two adults in the car and two other children suffered non life-threatening injuries in the crash.
Police say none of Haynes’ daughters, 6 year old Alexa, who died, 10 year old Adrianna or 8 year old Asia was wearing a seat belt.
Some of the felony charges against Haynes includes murder, criminally negligent homicide, aggravated vehicular homicide and reckless endangerment as well as several misdemeanor counts.
If convicted, Haynes faces a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in prison.
