Vestal Man is Accused of Slashing Brother, Threatening Police Dog

Vestal Police say a man cut his brother with a knife, threatened police officers and said he was going to beat up police dog, Kia before the dog bit him during a struggle with police and he was taken into custody.

Police were called to a mobile home at the Stewart Trailer Park on Stewart Road at around 7 p.m. January 22 by a man who said he had locked himself in the bathroom after being cut by his brother, 32 year old Matthew Hirthler.

Police say they found Hirthler intoxicated and uncooperative.

The 37 year old brother sustained several cuts, including to his face.

Hirthler is charged with assault and resisting arrest.
