A 46-year-old Vestal man has been charged with assault and criminal mischief after a reported domestic disturbance.

Authorities say James Sutera of Brook Hill Avenue was arrested after a man called police just before 3 a.m. Thursday saying he believed he'd been shot in the hand.

When officers arrived at Sutera's home, they found his girlfriend hiding near the street.

The woman told police she had been in a dispute with Sutera. According to police, she said she had fired a weapon during the incident.

The woman was treated at Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton.

Police say Sutera was examined by medics at the scene but did not require treatment.

Sutera was arraigned in Vestal town court and sent to Broome County Jail.
