Vestal Man Accused of Speeding Away from State Police on Rt. 17
New York State Police say a Vestal man is charged with reckless endangerment and unlawfully fleeing a police officer after he was reportedly seen going 99.1 mph on State Route 17 in Owego at 2:26 p.m. October 13.
Troopers say 24-year-old Jafar Sarker sped up after they tried to pull him over, reaching speeds exceeding 120 mph as he swerved to try to evade the trooper.
Sarker exited the highway by the Hiawatha Bridge and came to a stop.
Troopers say they found he was in possession of a small amount of marijuana and paraphernalia.
Sarker was sent to the Tioga County Jail on $1,000 bail.
