Trumbull, Connecticut school psychologist Mary Greene-Sherlach, who graduated from Vestal high school in 1974, was among those killed at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut Friday morning.

The 56 year old, who also graduated from SUNY Cortland, reportedly ran toward the shooter to try to stop the carnage. She and five other adults, as well as 20 children were killed in the second deadliest school shooting in the nation's history.

Sherlach was described in published reports by childhood friends as popular and involved in the Vestal school community while growing up in Broome County and reportedly enjoyed working with children in her adult life.
