Another referendum is being held on a proposal to buy a heavy duty rescue truck for the Vestal Fire Department.

A plan to spend up to $800,000 to acquire the vehicle was rejected by Vestal Fire District voters last April. The proposal was defeated by a vote of 189 to 182.

The next referendum is scheduled for November 19. Voting will take place from noon to 9 p.m. at Vestal Town Hall.

Fire department officials say they want to replace a 27-year-old rescue truck. They say parts for the vehicle are difficult to obtain and the body of the truck is deteriorating because of rust.

The new truck would have a ten-person cab and would have additional storage space compared to the vehicle now in use.

Informational meetings on the proposed truck purchase are scheduled. One will be November 12 at Vestal Hills Elementary School. Another will be November 14 at Vestal Senior High School. Both sessions will start at 7 p.m.
