The Vestal Fire Department is hosting its annual expo October 3 for a 10th year at the Vestal Lowes store on Sycamore Road.

Fire Prevention Officer Ken Fortier says every year, organizers chose a cause to attach to the event.  Last year it was Traci's Hope for Cancer Prevention and this year the event supports Autism Awareness.

Fortier says there are a variety of activities for the entire family including the Broome County Fire Prevention Trailer, a fire truck pedal car giveaway, a game trailer, antique fire trucks, Sparky the Fire Dog and photo booth where people can take their photo dressed up as a firefighter and many other displays.

Importantly, fire departments all over the region are looking for new volunteers and the expo serves as a perfect venue for people who may be interested in the various aspects of working in their local fire department to talk to current volunteers.

This year's theme is Smoke Detectors Save Lives, "When you hear the beep, move your feet."

The expo is being held Saturday, October 3 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Even after the expo people interested in volunteering are encouraged to visit their local fire department when someone is there to talk about opportunities.
