The Vermont Catamounts men's basketball team dropped its opening round game in the NIT last night.  The Georgia Bulldogs defeated Vermont in Athens, Georgia 63-56.  The Bulldogs entered the tournament as a number-two seed.  The Catamounts received their bid by winning the America East regular season championship.

Point guard Sandro Carissimo was the leading scorer for the Catamounts with 11 points.  Candon Rusin also scored in double figures with 10 points.  Charles Mann was the big gun for the Bulldogs with 29 points.  He made 8 of 11 shots and was 12-13 at the free throw line.

Georgia took a 29-20 lead at the end of the first half.  Vermont countered with a 36-34 advantage in the second 20 minutes but it was not enough.  Georgia held a big edge in rebounding with a 31 to 18 advantage.

The Bulldogs up their record to 20-13 while Vermont closes its season at 22-11.  The Albany Great Danes are the only America East men's basketball team left in the post-season.  They play at 4:10 PM today in Orlando versus the top-rated team in the nation the Florida Gators.
