The driver of a truck that crashed, head-on into a compact sport utility vehicle in the Town of Roxbury that claimed the life of a Jefferson woman is now being charged with vehicular manslaughter.

19 year old Thomas Schmiedel of Prattsville was initially charged with drunk driving following the crash June 7 on Route 23 in Delaware County.

71 year old Elvira Voght was killed while her passenger, 71 year old Robert Vogt was taken to Albany Medical center with a broken arm and other injuries.

Schmiedel was hospitalized with internal injuries while his passenger, 18 year old Tyler Hoyt of Maplecrest was not hurt.

Schmiedel was released to his family following arraignment on the felony manslaughter and vehicular assault charges and ordered to appear in court July 1.
