Puffing is prohibited in Broome County government buildings, even if smokers don’t light up.

The legislature has unanimously passed a measure extending the smoking policy to include a ban on e-cigarettes and other vaping products.

Like smokers, vapers have to leave a county building and stand more than 20 feet from the entrances.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has recommended indoor bans.

Local health officials and some legislators have said they want to extend the ban to include places like public parks.

Meanwhile, the Broome County Health Department has released information from a recent study that shows a growing number of teens using e-cigarettes.  The report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention also points to what it says is marketing specifically directed to young people with many vape products flavored like candy.
