Pennsylvania State Police are releasing the identities of those involved in a deadly, three-vehicle crash on Interstate 81 in Susquehanna County near the Lackawanna County line that took the life of a Northern Tier school district official.

The southbound lanes of Interstate 81 were closed for hours following the 7:30 a.m. crash in Benton Township.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, a northbound 2011 Volkswagen Jetta struck the rear of a 2013 Subaru Crosstrek. Both vehicles spun off the highway into the median.

The Subaru continued into the southbound lanes of I-81, striking a 2003 Ford Escape.

Patricia Pasierb of Jefferson Township, who was a passenger in the Subaru, was pronounced dead at the scene. According to a report in the Binghamton Press & Sun Bulletin, Pasierb was the director of Special Services in the Mountain View School District in Susquehanna County.

The driver of the Subaru, Rebecca Giordano of Jefferson Township and Nichole Onofrey of Uniondale, Pennsylvania, who was driving the Ford ,were taken to a hospital for treatment of their injuries. The driver, Jacob Bennet of Rathway, New Jersey and a girl riding in his Volkswagen sustained minor injuries but were not transported to a hospital.

Pennsylvania State Police say their investigation is on-going.
