The United Way of Broome County has officially begun its 2012 fundraising campaign and hopes to raise $3.6 million by mid-December.  Those funds are used to support several programs in the Southern Tier including education, income, and health services.  All monies raised in this year's campaign will go towards programs in 2013.

Alan Hertel, the Executive Director of United Way of Broome County says the need is much greater this year because "our community has been faced with another challenging year of flood recovery and economic hurdles."  Hertel is hoping that Broome County residents will continue their generosity in supporting the United Way.

The United Way is encouraging everyone to visit www.unitedwaybroome.org or to call 240-2000 to learn how they can get involved or make a donation.
