An asbestos-abatement project at Union-Endicott High School is being completed.

The building on East Main Street in Endicott is scheduled to reopen next week.

The high school has been closed to all visitors since July 7 to allow for the removal of asbestos-based ceiling tiles in parts of the building.

School district spokesman Christopher Schmidt says all of the tiles were taken out as planned and there were no problems with the project.

Schmidt says workers this week are finishing up the work with clean-up tasks throughout the school.

The building is to reopen for staff and visitors on Monday morning.

An orientation program for students who will be entering ninth grade or those who will be new to the high school will be held on August 26. The event will start at 5:45 p.m. in the school auditorium.

Also at the high school, crews are working on the new Fran Angeline Fieldhouse adjacent to Ty Cobb Stadium. The original fieldhouse, which contained locker rooms and storage areas, was destroyed by the flood nearly three years ago.
