UMass Lowell Joins America East

The America East is losing a member and gaining another.  UMass Lowell will become the newest member of America East with Boston University departing to join the Patriot League.  At a press conference this morning at the Tsongas Center on the River Hawks campus AE Commissioner Amy Huchthausen made the announcement.

Lowell with a student body of 16,300 will officially enter the conference on July 1, 2013.  The River Hawks currently are members of the Northeast-10. They will not be eligible for postseason play until  2017 -18

when they finish a mandatory four-year period as they reclassify from Divison II to Divsion I.

The Binghamton Bearcats have competed against the River Hawks before when both were members of the Division II New England Collegiate Conference from 1998 - 2000.
