Ride-sharing is in business in Binghamton.  The ride-sharing apps for Uber and Lyft activated at midnight June 29.

The launch of ride-sharing in areas outside of New York City was moved up several days in order to be in place in time for the July 4 holiday.

Supporters had said, not only will Uber and Lyft offer job and other economic opportunities in the areas where it has expanded, but can also curb drunk driving, which is often a problem on holidays like the 4th of July.
