An early-morning blaze in a rural area east of Oneonta left two children dead and an adult injured.

Authorities say the house fire in the Delaware County town of Davenport was reported around 1:45 a.m. Friday.

According to New York State Police, the blaze occurred at 435 Dehning Road.

Investigators say two children died as a result of the fire. An adult who sustained burns was being treated at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse.

Officials did not release the names and ages of the children who died or the adult who was hurt.

The Davenport Fire Department was assisted by units from Pindars Corners, Hobart and Kortright.

State police were assisted by the Delaware County Sheriff's Office. State fire investigators are helping in the effort to determine the cause of the blaze.
