Authorities say 54-year-old Joseph Ringwood of Endwell and 23-year-old Sarah Maliwacki of Johnson City were taken into custody in Binghamton.

Investigators say the pair are accused of entering a Jay Street residence through a basement window. The two allegedly stole a tool they hoped to use to repair a friend's car.

A resident of the home arrived while the intruders were still inside. The two drove off but not before the homeowner snapped a picture of the vehicle's license plate.

A Binghamton police officer spotted the vehicle a short time later. Ringwood and Maliwacki have been charged with second-degree burglary. They were arraigned in Union town court and sent to Broome County Jail.
