Tri Cities Opera in Binghamton is '65 and So Alive!'

TCO marketing director, Judy Berry, speaking on the local weekly public affairs program, Southern Tier Close Up, says the 65th season is about to wrap up with an operetta that has not been preformed in Binghamton in years.

Die Fledermaus by Johann Strauss is a raucous comedy with mistaken identities, flirtations and, of course, beautiful music.  Plus, all the costumes and sets for the show are new, made by the Tri Cities Opera set and costume departments.

Berry says the May 2 and May 4 performances will be in English but will also have English Opera Titles for times when performers are singing all at once and it might be hard to make out their words.

Berry also talks about the popular Opralogue that takes place at the Opera Center on Clinton Street the Saturday before the performances.  Little tastes of songs from the opera are featured along with wine and cheese and an overview of the storyline.

On a side-note, people can vote for their favorite dog that appeared in this year's Muttropolitan Opera calendar.  That pooch will win a wag-on role in Die Fledermaus.  Voting can be done online at www.tricitiesopera.com.

Tickets can also be purchased online or by calling the Box Office at (607) 772-0400.

Southern Tier Close Up is heard every Saturday at 12:10 p.m. on News Radio 1290 WNBF.
