The New York State Department of Transportation has suspended active road work through the holiday weekend but reduced speeds in work zones are still in effect.

Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf’s Administration is also cautioning all travelers in Pennsylvania to be aware of and prepared for snow squalls and make plans accordingly.

Motorists can get current weather conditions in whatever state they are in by calling 511.

Law enforcement agencies are working overtime to make sure the roads are safe.  Increased sobriety and safety patrols are already out looking for drunk and dangerous drivers, people driving while distracted or drowsy and violations of seat belt laws.

As for business the rest of the week, stores are guaranteed to be busy with increased traffic on main shopping thoroughfares like the Vestal Parkway but some offices are even closing early today and won’t open again until Monday.

Government offices will be closed and municipalities, like Johnson City, remind residents that services like garbage collection, won’t happen on the holiday.  In Johnson City, Thursday refuse collection will be collected Friday and garbage normally collected Friday will be picked up on Monday when there will be no yard waste collection.
