This is a transitional week for traffic at a busy interstate highway interchange in Binghamton.

Traffic pattern changes are being implemented as part of the Prospect Mountain Project.

Drivers should expect delays in the work zone and consider alternate routes, if possible.

The Route 17 eastbound ramp to Interstate 81 northbound is scheduled to be closed from 6 p.m. Monday to 6 a.m. Tuesday.

Southbound motorists on Interstate 81 should be prepared for delays starting Tuesday afternoon as traffic through the work zone is limited to a single lane.

Jack Williams, regional director for the New York State Department of Transportation, says southbound traffic will be shifted to a recently-constructed bridge over Chenango Street.

The goal is to have the planned transitions completed in time for the Wednesday morning rush hour.

Williams says the massive highway project now is about 65 percent complete.
