A heavily-traveled roadway in the town of Union will be out of service for about a week because of a drainage repair project.

Broome County officials say a portion of Taft Avenue north of the George F. Johnson Elementary School will be closed for the planned work.

Taft Avenue between Ford Road and Jill Avenue will be shut down for the project starting at 6 a.m. on Monday, September 14.

A detour will route traffic onto Ford Road to Darlene Drive to Arnold Drive and then to Jill Avenue before returning to Taft Avenue.

The project should be completed by the end of the week, weather permitting. The road is expected to reopen at 5 p.m. on Friday, September 18.
