Investigators say 21-year-old Jordan Stevens of Newman Road, Newark Valley, was charged with second-degree attempted murder and tampering with physical evidence.

According to the Tioga County Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to Fairfield Road in the Town of Candor early Sunday to investigate a report that someone had been struck by a vehicle.

Officials say interviews indicated Stevens had punched and strangled a 22-year-old Candor man before driving over him with a vehicle.

The injured man was taken to Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City, where he had been reported in critical condition.

Stevens was arraigned in Newark Valley town court. He was ordered held in Tioga County Jail without bail.
