New York State Parolee, a Richfield Springs man and a Town of Norwich man are being charged in connection with the theft of two dirt bikes in November.

Chenango County Sheriff’s Deputies tried to stop a car and a Yamaha 250 dirt bike on County Road 32 in North Norwich shortly before the bike was reported stolen November 13.  The driver of the Yamaha refused to stop, lost control, crashed the bike then ran into the woods.

Deputies say they determined Parolee, 26 year old Michael Hicks of Norwich was driving the dirt bike and 23 year old David Wehrenberg of Richfield Springs was driving the passenger vehicle.

20 year old Brent Manwarren of Norwich is accused of storing a second stolen dirt bike, a 2010 Kawasaki KX 65, and trying to sell it on craigslist.

Hicks is charged with petit larceny and was already in the Chenango County Jail without bail. Wehrenberg is charged with Grand Larceny and was found to have an active arrest warrant for insurance fraud in Otsego County. He was turned over to the Otsego County Sheriff’s office.

Both Hicks and Wehrenberg face additional charges related to the pursuit.

Manwarren is charged with criminal possession of stolen property and ordered to appear in Town of Norwich Court at a later date.

The stolen bikes were returned to their rightful owner.
