Tens of thousands of people apparently want to join the 'Long Grey Line.'

New York State Police Employees Relation recruitment branch spokesman, Lieutenant Richard O'Brian says 35,203 people signed up by the September 8 deadline to take the state police entrance exam next month.

The test will be held at various locations around New York Oct. 5, 12. 19 and 26.The next crop of recruits pulled from that eligibility list are expected to be ready to start training next September.

In addition to road patrols, the state police are filling various positions including crime scene investigators, K-9 handlers and teams that reconstruct accident scenes.

The New York State Police began an extensive campaign to look for those interested in possibly joining the ranks several months ago.
