An equipment problem caused a brief interruption in electric service for about half of NYSEG's customers in Tioga County.

Utility spokesman Bob Pass says the 27-minute outage started at 2:21 this afternoon.

Nearly 10,000 NYSEG customers in the towns of Owego and Tioga were affected by the interruption.

Pass says an insulator on a switch failed at the utility's Lockheed Martin substation. That problem then caused an outage for customers served by the NYSEG South Owego substation.

Repairs were made and full service was restored at 2:48 p.m.

An Owego Apalachin school district spokesman says the outage caused no significant problems for the district because it happened late in the school day.

School buses coming from the district middle school were delayed a few minutes in arriving at the high school but no other issues were reported.
