More than 5,000 New York State Electric and Gas customers lost electric service in the wake of gusty winds.

According to NYSEG's website, 5,042 customers were without power as of 5 p.m. Sunday.

Broome County had the highest number of reported outages with 2,011. Nearly 400 customers in the City of Binghamton were without electric service.

Outages also were reported in more than a dozen towns and villages across the county.

In Tioga County, the utility indicated 174 customers were without power. Most of those were in the Town of Owego.

Elsewhere in the region, NYSEG reported outages were affecting 229 customers in Delaware County and 31 customers in Chenango County.
