Two grants are funneling over $128,000 into the City of Binghamton's Police and Fire departments.

$99,929 is being aimed to improve and develop a tactical team in the City Police Department.

The team would support counter terrorism efforts and accreditation with the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services SWAT Team Standards.

Binghamton Mayor Richard David says part of the money will buy state-of-the-art tactical radio systems that include encrypted channels and custom headsets.

$28,524 is going to the Fire Department to pay for water and rope rescue equipment and training. The new equipment, including life jackets and specialized rescue suits will be housed at Fire Engine number two, West side Station.

The money is coming through the New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services.
