No injuries are reported after fire leveled a decades old community gathering place in Sidney overnight August 26.  Fire broke out at the Hillcrest Roller Rink on County Road 4 at around 11:30 p.m.

By the time the first crews were on the scene, flames were already shooting through the roof of the structure.

Firefighters from at least eight departments responded to the scene and spent several hours battling the blaze.

Officials say they were hampered by the unavailability of water nearby.

The rink was to open for the season in about a week and there had been plans for the location to host an after-school program.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The owners have not decided whether the rink will be rebuilt.
