If you think you know what the Broome Government Security Division does, you probably don't have the complete picture.

Speaking on the August 17 edition of the weekly, local public affairs program, Southern Tier Close Up, Director of the Broome County Government Security Division, James Dadamio says the work of the division is more than the highly visible bicycle patrols and Broome Security squad cars in county parks and around other county facilities.

One of the most widely-reaching units in the department involves cyber crime and works closely with the U.S. Attorney's Office, FBI and other law enforcement agencies to recover criminal evidence from various electronics devices gathered from investigations in the U.S. Justice Department's Northern District of New York.

Dadamio says Broome Security is also playing a large part in the county's effort to crack down on welfare fraud, saving hundreds of thousands of public dollars.

County Security officers are Peace Officers with the authority to make arrests and often serve as the eyes and ears for other law enforcement agencies.

Southern Tier Close Up can be heard Saturday afternoons at 12:10 on News Radio 1290 WNBF.
