The decades old tradition of a community Christmas dinner in Broome County is in danger.

The Bandera Family Dinner has lost the support of some sponsors and doesn’t have the money needed to hold the dinner for the 25th year.

Bill Bandera Junior says some donors and venues have been set, but only $1,000 of the $8,000 needed is in the bank.

Money is needed to buy some big-ticket food items like meat and baking ingredients.

Volunteers are also needed.

Donations can be made online at www.bfaca.org.

The free annual dinner is planned for Christmas Day at American Legion Post 80 in Binghamton and the Endicott Boys and Girls Club and deliveries will also be made.

The Bandera family and volunteers normally serve about 3,500 meals.

Preparations for this year's dinner are due to get underway by December 15.
