Thanksgiving Holiday Weekend Brings a Sports Smorgasbord

Many will get a break from the rigors of the workforce this Thanksgiving Holiday weekend.  Some will work part of the weekend but enjoy more time off than usual.  For sports fans there are tons of choices.  If you are a fitness enthusiast the weather should cooperate for that walk or run outdoors through at least Friday.  Temperatures are expected in the low 50′s and no rain.

For those who want to enjoy their Thanksgiving dinner and then relax the NFL offers a doubleheader.  At 1230 the Detroit Lions host Houston.  Then at 415 it’s the Washington Redskins visiting Dallas to tackle the Cowboys.

Want to do something Thanksgiving evening ?  The Binghamton Senators have their traditional home game at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena as they the Toronto Marlies and Triple Cities native Jerry D’Amigo.  D’Amigo, a 2009 graduate of Johnson City High School attended RPI where he was named the ECAC Rookie of the Year in the 2009 -2010 season.  He was a sixth round draft pick of the Toronto Maple Leafs and turned pro with them in 2010.  Heading into his game against the Sens on Thursday night he has scored 2 goals and added 3 assists in 12 AHL games this season.  The Sens also play home on Saturday night when they host the Bridgeport Sound Tigers at 705.

Saturday is a big day for the Maine-Endwell Spartans football team as they look to win their second consecutive New York State Public High School Athletic Association Championship at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse.  M-E meets Glens Falls in a 3 PM kickoff

For basketball fans the Binghamton University Bearcats will host a doubleheader at the Events Center.  At 4 PM the women host Siena and then at 7 PM the men meet Marywood University.  It’s a Subway “Pack the House” day.  Free ticket coupons are available at area Subway Restaurants.  Fans can redeem those coupons at the Events Center box office or online for free tickets.  One ticket provides entry for both games.  Both contests can also be heard or News Radio 1290 WNBF and at wnbf.com.
