Congresswoman Claudia Tenney is concerned about "really aggressive" actions that staffers working on her reelection campaign have reported.

A Tenney campaign consultant had written a memo that described challenger Anthony Brindisi's family as "thuggish," according to the New York Post.

The memo warned that relatives of the Democratic state assemblyman might resort to "violence and intimidation."

On Tuesday, Tenney said she "didn't approve necessarily of everything in it."

Speaking on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program, the Republican congresswoman said "I don't know if I would have written it the same way."

Tenney, who is seeking a second term representing New York's 22nd Congressional District, said tires were slashed on a car belonging to a campaign worker.

Tenney said there have been "a lot of threats" as part of what she described as "a very aggressive environment." She said there's been no indication that Brindisi's campaign or family have been responsible for any problems.

The congresswoman said in addition to the tire slashing, "there's been aggressive surveillance or you might call it stalking." She said a person she described as a "tracker" grabbed her car door when she tried to get into the vehicle.

Tenney said that was "technically an assault." She said she reported the incident to the Capitol police. She said she would press charges in the case if she "could prove it."
