It’s tax day, but not really tax day.  April 15th is the deadline for filing federal income taxes.

However, government offices in Washington close in observance of Emancipation Day on the 16th, the day President Abraham Lincoln declared slaves free in DC.  Since that falls on a Saturday, Government workers get Friday, April 15 off in the nation’s capital, where the tax returns are processed, pushing the deadline to Monday, April 18.

Some tax preparers were extending their hours to accommodate procrastinators but remind filers that they should not wait the extra few days to get their returns in.
