A Binghamton man has pleaded guilty to murder and attempted murder charges in connection with a vicious attack on a First Ward couple.

22-year-old Julian Talamantez admitted in Broome County Court that he stabbed a man and a woman in their home at 32 Mygatt Street on November 4.

Talamantez acknowledged attacking 23-year-old Jordan Dordell and a 19-year-old woman during an early-morning robbery.

Dordell died as a result of the assault. The woman, who was six months pregnant, survived after being stabbed more than a dozen times. She also sustained broken bones when she was beaten.

Under a plea deal, Talamantez is to be sentenced in October to 25 years to life in prison.

Another suspect in the case -- 25-year-old Nigel Saunders -- also was charged with murder and attempted murder.

Police said the two Mygatt Street residents were brutally stabbed and beaten before the intruders set the house on fire.

Investigators say the critically-injured woman was able to use a broomstick to smash a window to escape the burning building.

Dordell's body was found in the basement after the blaze was extinguished.
