Broome County Power Outages Continue to Mount

As the heavier winds and rain from Hurricane Sandy move through Broome, Tioga and Chenango Counties more power outages are being reported by NYSEG.  As of 7 PM  970 NYSEG customers were reported without power in Broome County

Thousands of NYSEG Customers Without Power

More than 12,000 New York State Electric and Gas customers were without electric service early this afternoon.

The utility reported 12,635 customers were affected by outages. Most were in Westchester County, where almost 4,000 had no electric service

A State of Emergency has been declared in Broome County, starting at four o'clock Monday afternoon.

County Executive Debra Preston's office announced the declaration at noon

The latest advisory from the National Weather Service Hurricane Center shows that Sandy is intensifying as it begins to turn towards the Eastern Seaboard.
