The gauges that measure water levels on area streams and rivers and provide early flood warning information to the National Weather Service will remain operational for now.

The U.S. Geological Survey had said several of the gauges in the Susquehanna River Basin would have to be deactivated March 1st due to a lack of funding.

While negotiations in Congress go on, a deal has been worked out to keep the devices functioning through the Spring flood season.

The new deadline for shutting off selected gauges has now been set for June 1st. Officials have said, however, they believe the funding will be found to keep the devices operating.
