Two Pennsylvania men are accused of snatching a purse from a woman at the Weis supermarket on Upper front Street in the Town of Chenango Saturday afternoon, not knowing that two off-duty Broome County Sheriff's officers were shopping in the store.

At around quarter after one, officials say the woman's purse was grabbed inside the store and she screamed, alerting the other shoppers. That included off-duty Sheriff's Captian Fredrick Akshar and patrol Lieutenant Kathleen Newcomb.

30 year old James Teobald and 23 year old Adam Esposito, both of Susquehanna, were apprehended by authorities with the help of shoppers.

Both are charged with five counts of grand larceny and criminal possession of a controlled substance and were sent to the Broome County Jail.

The two men had only recently been released from the Susquehanna County Jail, where they had been held in connection with theft charges.
