A routine walk to school has ended in the tragic death of a Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania teen.

State police say 16 year old Mahlon Mosher of New Milford was walking along the train tracks that run parallel to State Route 11 on his way to the Blue Ridge high school shortly after 8 a.m. December 11 when he was hit and killed by a northbound train.

Officials say the conductor signaled with an air horn and tried to stop, but the train's front plow hit mosher as the train passed him, killing him.

Troopers say the teen was listening to music through headphones and didn't hear the train.
