The Tioga County Health Department is warning residents about a suspected rabid fox on the loose.

Yesterday in Tioga Center, a fox attacked a man and woman in their driveway as they were getting out of their vehicle.  Both were bitten but escaped serious injuries.  The couple is receiving treatment for rabies.

The Tioga Center School District has been notified and is limiting recess and is also watching students more closely while outside.

The Health Department is working with the Tioga County Sheriff's Office and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation to watch for and to capture the fox if possible.

Residents are being advised that if they are going to be outdoors to be aware of their surroundings, to watch for the fox, and to supervise children.  They also say that it is very important to not approach the animal.
